![]() ![]() And I think dystopias are useful for that, for thinking about the consequences of things like climate change or women’s rights or anything that affects the way that we live in the world. One of the great things about science fiction or fantasy as well is that you can take a contemporary issue, remove it from its context, and then deal with all of the ramifications of it in this whole other context and get a new view on it that it’s very difficult to have looking at into the real world. Why are dystopian novels important?Īlexandra Duncan: I think they are a way of bringing up social issues. JMW: “Salvage” is a wonderful book even if it is dystopian and dystopian on so many levels, politically, culturally, ecologically. It was really, really thrilling and a great surprise. Congratulations on winning the Compton Crook yesterday.Īlexandra Duncan: Thank you. It made me realize that a story can be delivered in many ways. ![]() Seuss were my earliest creative influences even though I don’t illustrate like any of them! Each are completely unique: Carle’s is graphic and minimalistic, Fujikawa’s is soft and rendered, and Dr. Who are your creative influences – in books, art, or any other media?Įric Carle, Gyo Fujikawa, and Dr. Children see the preciousness of things we grown-ups sometimes overlook… and I bring this character to life through Penguin. A child has an innate love for things and a need to connect, even if they are inanimate. I like to capture the innocence of childhood, when anything and everything can be your friend. What aspects of childhood do you like to capture in your art and writing? She got her start in novelty/board books and has recently branched out into character-drive picture books with great success. Build your first product into a more general distribution channel and put multiple products through it. Gil breaks down companies into having three main goals:įirst - establish product-market fit and then build a distribution channel and take the market. In these notes I mainly aim to summarize what I find as the key takeaways of the book, from my understanding and as applied to my personal context, rather than try to present my all-things-considered view on how best to run a company. There is also a lot of good advice that is not in this book. Note there are some things in this book that I disagree with, or at least don’t fully agree with. If you want details about these sorts of things, you’d want to read the book. ![]() I personally have more of a non-profit perspective, so I did not take notes on things like startup valuations, investor relations, etc. I am taking notes on this book mainly to learn about management and operations. I found myself soaking it all in appreciatively as I followed the very compelling details of Fitz' and Lord Golden's search for the missing Prince Dutiful. Hobbs' narrative is richly descriptive, and complements the story line of this book perfectly. An older, more self controlled Fitz, in this tale still has some of his earlier traits, but in moderation. That said, my estimation this story with the mature Fitz is even better than the previous ones where he was young and far too impetuous, often causing him to make foolish and regrettable decisions that drove the plot. I enjoyed the tales of Fitz Chivalry's youth, and would suggest that reader's listen to them before starting this newer trilogy. After listening to the first chapter I knew I had better listen to the first 3 titles in the trilogy before continuing. ![]() I have been searching for a new series to listen to for quite a while when Audible offered this book free in December. ![]() ![]() ![]() SubPress favorite Tommy Arnold has contributed a full-color dust jacket, black-and-white endpapers, and a full-page black-and-white-illustration for each story.
